LOD Langauage of Destination

Mission and Goals

The LOD Committee shall be responsible to monitor all problems specific to flight attendants on Language of Destination (LOD) status, ensuring that LOD concerns are elevated and addressed. In addition, the LOD Committee shall ensure compliance with provisions stipulated in Letter of Agreement 16 of the collective bargaining agreement.Contact Us: lod@nwaafa.org


LOD TUITION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM

- Union-negotiated FA Agreement Section 3.8 and Letter of Agreement 16 provide flight attendants interested in being part of the Language of Destination Program an opportunity to learn and speak one of the eligible languages and receive tuition reimbursement.

Program Highlights:

1. You will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $2,000 for courses you take in an effort to pass the Company's Language Qualification Test for one of the nine designated languages.
2. You must first successfully pass the Company's Language Qualification Test to be eligible for tuition reimbursement.
3. The course(s) must have been taken at an accredited institution which has been pre-approved by the company.
4. Reimbursement includes tuition cost and registration fees. No other expenses incurred, such as meals, transportation, textbooks, parking or other support materials will be reimbursed.

6. Northwest reserves the right to amend or modify the program at any time.

Pre-approval process:

1. Courses must be taken at an approved or accredited school, college, or university. Correspondence courses offered by approved or accredited schools will also be approved.
2. Courses must directly relate to the learning of the language in which you qualify.
3. To obtain approval, complete and submit a "Language Reimbursement Approval Application" form to your base management. A separate form is needed for each course.
4. Your base management will notify you as to whether or not the institution and course meets the criteria for preapproval.

Reimbursement process:
1. Upon completion of the course and after successfully passing NWA's Language Qualification Test, submit the following to your base management:
- Grade achieved
- Valid receipts for all expenses for which reimbursement is requested
2. All requests for tuition reimbursement payments must be submitted no later than ninety (90) days after the date you successfully passed NWA's Language Qualification Test.
3. Requests for tuition reimbursement for courses completed after successfully passing NWA's
Language Qualification Test will not be honored.
