Committees
Air Safety, Health & Security
The Association of Flight Attendants fights exclusively to improve conditions that affect the safety, health and security of flight attendants. The Northwest AFA-CWA Air Safety, Health and Security Committee (ASHS) is assisted by full-time staff support in Washington, DC and is responsible for reporting and solving problems at the carrier level.Communications - Newsletters - Website
Communication from the MEC to the membership - and vice versa - improves our collective strength by demystifying our contract and making it accessible. We also solicit feedback to continually assess the current communication needs of flight attendants.
Employee Assistance Program
The AFA Employee Assistance Program is the vehicle through which our union delivers peer assistance services. EAP offers the previously separate services of mental health, CISM, Pro-Stan and CAP through local Base EAP Representatives. Grievance
The Grievance Committee's primary objective is the protection of all Flight Attendants against arbitrary and unjust disciplinary action. The committee upholds the collective bargaining agreement and provides the fastest possible procedures for arbitration of member grievances.Government Affairs
The Government Affairs Committee brings issues that affect our careers to the attention of our legislators on Capitol Hill as well as to state and local law-makers. The goal of the committee is to legislate as much as possible, taking items off the table so that we won't have to negotiate for them.Hotels
The Hotel Committee is responsible to insure that the Company provides safe, clean, and reliable housing for Flight Attendants while on layovers. In addition, the Committee conducts site inspections of current as well as potential hotels.
Information Systems
The Information Services Committee keeps up with what Northwest is doing with regard to computers, both at home and on NWA property, to make our work lives easier.
The Insurance and Retirement Committee shall assist members with questions regarding retirement, 401(k) plans, pension, insurance benefits, claims and investment vehicles that may become available.
Member Mobilization / IMPACT
The Member Mobilization/IMPACT Committee is focused on a strategy of increasing our power through membership education and activism. A union's power at any point in time is nothing more than the total energy and support of its mobilized members.
Negotiations / Contract Interpretation Committee
The Negotiations/Contract Interpretation Committee is chaired by the MEC President. Upon ratification of our contract, committee members shifted their focus from negotiating to implementation, proofing of the printed agreement and creating an index. Committee members remain available to the MEC as a valuable resource for interpretation of our collective bargaining agreement.
Occupational Benefits
This committee is responsible for assisting flight attendants with problems that may be encountered in OJI cases. Occupation Benefits volunteers are aided by staff attorneys with a wealth of knowledge about state and federal laws and their relationship to our collective bargaining agreement.
Purser

Reserve
The Reserve Committee coordinates efforts with the Scheduling Committee to provide the greatest benefit to our newest members on reserve.
Scheduling Committee
The MEC Scheduling Committee acts as a liaison between crew scheduling, the flight attendants, and NWA AFA-CWA. Our contract allows the Committee "input and the opportunity to recommend changes or distribution of future flying." The Committee also addresses scheduling concerns with the director of scheduling and contract compliance during its meetings with the company.
